A West Virginia The city councilor died last week after a tree fell on his car while driving his son home from soccer, according to a report.

Last Wednesday’s freak crash on Greenbrier Street in Charleston, West Virginia, left John Kennedy Bailey dead, according to city mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin.

Bailey served on Charleston City Council and his death shocked his colleagues.

“I spent many nights talking with John in the parking lot at City Hall long after council meetings were over,” Mayor Goodwin said in a statement posted on Facebook.

“We were talking about how we could make it right, make it better. He was funny and fun. He was relaxed but motivated. He was someone you wanted on your team, and we loved him so much,” said the mayor.

Bailey was married with three children, WCHS reported.

“He’s irreplaceable. He’s one of those people who doesn’t come every day,” Bailey’s friend Bernie Layne told the outlet.

“It sounds cliché to say that, but John is a once in a lifetime guy. He was a character, but a really good character,” Layne said.
