What local doctors say about adult vaccines targeted by Biden on May 1

Local doctors congratulate President Joe Biden on his announcement Thursday calling on states to make all adults eligible for COVID-19 vaccines by May 1.

The president announced the move during an evening address to the nation, sharing that he was one of several stages aimed at tackling the coronavirus pandemic with the goal of allowing Americans to gather in small groups for July 4.

Dr Ashish Jha, Dean of Brown University School of Public Health, responded on Twitter, reminding readers that the United States vaccines and distribution capacity to reach the May 1 goal.

“We can end this pandemic,” he said. “It’s our shot.”

Dr Megan Ranney, emergency physician and director of the Brown Lifespan Center for Digital Health, agreed.

“Well #direction listen… Direct resources to problems… Check what they missed, ”she wrote on Twitter. “And this, my friends, is a great example of good leadership.”

Dr Abraar Karan, a doctor at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, wrote on Twitter that Biden’s announcements were “music” to his ears and made a comparison to Biden’s predecessor.

“Finally a president who gets it,” he wrote. “Beating the pandemic is our way out of the pandemic… don’t pretend it doesn’t exist or wave your fans from an SUV like everything is fine when you are actually hypoxic and you are getting infusions of monoclonal antibodies. “
