Andrew Luck, the quarterback of the Indianapolis Colts franchise, surprised the sports world on Saturday by announcing that he would be retiring the NFL imminently.
Former NFL players such as Jerry Rice, Victor Cruz and Kurt Warner have expressed surprise. Current players Derek Carr, Leonard Fournette and others send their best wishes.
Here are some of the notable reactions after the announcement of Luck's retirement:
Andrew Luck's retirement is the most shocking retreat since Jim Brown.

Journalists and fans do not come back. Andrew Luck mentally verifies and retires. I congratulate him for having the courage to introduce himself and to be truthful. Personal health is more important than any game or team! The league does not care about your health when it's over

I'm not sure who is responsible for Andrew Luck's retirement at 29, but poor training staff and miserable leadership will continually accelerate the longevity of the players' careers. Andrew Luck, one of the brightest #NFL stars retiring at 29 years old. Sad.

Many love to my fellow Texas brother.
Stiil remembers our time together as Heisman's finalists and the way we laughed at being almost teammates at Stanford. The decision was only of your choice and I am glad that you have found peace. Respect https://t.co/4MQzsyZ9hz– Robert Griffin III (@RGIII) August 25, 2019

I've always said that I would not be surprised if Luck retired at his peak. Yet here I am shocked! He was really one of the guys who seemed to have played only because he had really enjoyed the game. Been a lot physically and mentally. Happy for him.
– Darius Butler (@DariusJButler) August 25, 2019
Chance, I applauded you. Will always remember our games against each other. And the convos we had on the side of life and happiness. Do you have my brother !!! Will always support the guys who do what is best for them in relation to these.
