On a third and a 1 off the 46-yard line, the Bills made a flea flicker, but Josh Allen’s pass to Stephon Diggs was blocked by Cam Sutton. After the punt and a 5-yard return from Ray-Ray McCloud, the Steelers took possession of their 13-yard line.
13:28 – What went well: In their first two possessions, the Bills offense was reported for detention on three occasions, one of which was denied because it occurred on an incomplete pass on a third and-14. Melvin Ingram III was retained and Chris Wormley was retained on the two accepted penalties. Cam Heyward was held back from play when the penalty was denied.
1:08 p.m. – What went well: Coach Mike Tomlin always tells his defense that while the unit has no control over when and where they are sent to the field, they have full control over how they get off the field. Isaiah McKenzie took the opening kickoff and ran 75 yards to the Steelers 24-yard line, where the Bills started the game’s first possession. After a 7-yard pass to Cole Beasley, a quick pass to Stephon Diggs lost 2 yards with a quick tackle from Cam Sutton. Then on third and five, Cam Heyward got his hands on a Josh Allen assist, and the Bills settled for a 37-yard field goal by Tyler Bass and a 3-0 lead with 1:30 p.m. play in the first quarter.
