Pat Sajak, the oft-chipper host of “Wheel of Fortune,” jokingly called out a contestant in Wednesday night’s episode, which caused a number of stunned viewers at home to react.

The jokes started when candidate Darin solved a puzzle for things beginning with the word “cooking”.

“Cabinet, oven, towels, sink,” Darin replied correctly. However, the competitor stressed that this does not necessarily make sense.

“Kitchen oven? what was that? Said Darin.

“Yeah, where would you like to keep an oven?” Sajak joked.

“Sure in the kitchen, but who calls that a ‘kitchen oven?’” Darin stepped forward.

“You won! Don’t argue, Darin! You have the puzzle! Ungrateful players, I got it!” Sajak responded.

The host, who laughed, then said: “No, I’m just teasing. I finally cracked!”

Fans at home were divided over the contender’s argument.

“Oh my @patsajak almost lost it on this guy #WheelOfFortune”, another reacted.

A spectator sided with Darin, write on twitter, “kitchen oven is like saying #wheeloffortune bathroom toilet.”

“I agree … who calls it a kitchen oven. #WheelOfFortune”, another wrote.

“Pat was trying to be funny!” a person defended Sajak, adding that the “(non) confrontation” was so light that they might have missed it.

Responding to a moment clip on Twitter, the viewer added, “He wasn’t ‘mean’ or condescending. I watch this every night of the week.”

Another insisted: “He was joking. How does that turn into Pat the Loser ???”

Darin’s appearance on the show was unique in that he revealed his mother was a three-night champion in the 1980s. He ultimately won $ 15,350, according to Yahoo !, along with an apology from Sajak.

“I’m sorry I yelled at you,” Sajak told him, through the exit. “It’s just – I don’t remember your mom getting us in trouble like you.”
