‘Wheel of Fortune’ host Pat Sajak jokingly dumps ‘ungrateful’ competitor

same Wheel of Fortune Host Pat Sajak seems to have had enough of 2020. In an episode aired Wednesday, Sajak was so enraged by a contestant that he yelled at him jokingly and called the candidate “ungrateful.” Sajak later apologized, but the initial moment went viral.

In the segment, contestant Darin McBain solved a special crossword puzzle where all of the words were parts of phrases starting with “cooking.” The words were “cabinet”, “towels”, “oven” and “sink”. Having understood correctly, McBain was perplexed. “Kitchen oven? what was that? He asked. “Who calls that a ‘kitchen oven’?”

Sajak was clearly surprised by this since usually the only competitors who complain are those who are wrong. “You won! Don’t argue, Darin! You have the puzzle! Ungrateful players, I got it,” Sajak said, note Weekly entertainment. He then quickly added, “No, I’m just teasing … I finally broke.” At the end of the episode, McBain came in second. “I’m sorry I yelled at you, Darin,” he told the contestant, who previously said his mom was on the show in 1982. “I don’t remember your mom causing us problems like you.”

Some Twitter users sided with McBain but found no meanness in what Sajak did. “The contestant was right! I said the exact same thing before him! And Pat was just having fun. No harm, no fault,” wrote one fan. “It was all joking and very funny and Pat was in Thanksgiving shape,” another tweeted. “Surprise, he was as ‘cool’ as he was, he’s human after all.”

Habitually, Wheel of Fortune clips go viral when a competitor makes an embarrassing mistake. For example, in an episode last week, a contestant thought he had solved a riddle by shouting, “I declare victory!” Unfortunately for him, the riddle was only “Declare victory”, so he got the wrong answer. The contestant claimed that he forgot he added the extra word, but Sajak had to tell him it didn’t matter. The next contestant correctly said simply “declare victory”.

Soon, celebrities could be the ones to make themselves look silly Wheel of Fortune. Earlier this month, ABC ordered a famous edition of the classic show, which will feature Sajak and Vanna White as hosts. The celebrities will each have the chance to win $ 1 million for their favorite charity. The regular syndicated version of Wheel of Fortune was renewed during the 2022-2023 season.
