Wheel of Fortune Host Pat Sajak is known to be kind and fun when speaking with contestants on the popular game show. However, her teasing got a little underhanded in a recent episode, which drew strong reactions from fans on Twitter.
The incident occurred after the longtime host called a contestant “ungrateful” after making fun of the correct answer to a puzzle. Sajak was clearly joking during the exchange. But that wasn’t enough to stop fans from voicing their thoughts on the whole exchange.

Meanwhile, Wheel of Fortune became a national phenomenon thanks to the spinning wheel and challenging and fun word puzzles to solve. Sajak and his assistant, Vanna White, have become as essential to the show as cash prizes and vacations. The public loved them.

Sajak is generally so friendly with the competitors who come Wheel of Fortune and usually don’t make jokes at their expense. This is what made it so surprising that he had a strange interaction with Darin McBain during a November 2020 episode.
The candidate, whose mother also appeared on Wheel of Fortune in 1982, expressed confusion over responses to a clue that he was right, the NY Post reported. McBain correctly guessed “cabinet, oven, towels, sink” after being asked to come up with four things that started with the word kitchen. But he pointed out to Sajak that there is no such thing as a “kitchen oven”.
“Kitchen oven?” McBain replied. “What was that? Who calls that a ‘kitchen oven’?”
And Sajak handed it to him. “Do not do that! You won! Don’t argue, Darin, ”he said. “You have the puzzle. Ungrateful players! I got it!”
But to prove it was all a joke, he continued, “No, I’m just teasing. I finally cracked!
Twitter fans reacted to Pat Sajak’s outburst
There is no doubt that Sajak was joking with McBain when he called him “ungrateful”. But despite this fact, Wheel of Fortune fans on Twitter responded to the explosion assuming there was some truth to it.
In a thread containing a video clip from the segment, fans criticized Sajak’s little rant, saying it obscured some deeper aspects of his character that generally remain hidden. They claimed that this more devious side of the longtime host has been simmering beneath the surface for years now. Still, others found the whole thing hilarious, which was expected anyway.
In the end, McBain returned home with $ 15,350 and an apology from the show’s host. “I’m sorry I yelled at you,” Sajak said. “It’s just – I don’t remember your mom getting us into trouble like you did.”
