The Shelby County Health Department is vaccinating funeral home and morgue workers, as well as people 75 and older when there is availability, officials said on Saturday (January 2).
In a statement on Saturday, health department officials said all appointments for Saturday and Sunday at drive-thru vaccination locations had now been filled and none were available.
“We will announce early next week when and where the drive-thru vaccination will resume for 1a1 groups, funeral / mortuary workers and the population over 75,” the statement said.
WEEKEND VACCINATION UPDATE
The Shelby County Department of Health continues to immunize people in priority 1a1 groups. Where there was availability, we have also provided vaccines to funeral / mortuary workers and people 75 years of age and over, who belong to group 1a2.
All appointments for Saturday and Sunday at our drive-thru vaccination centers have now been filled and none are available.
Next week, the Department of Health will begin offering immunizations in communities, including long-term care facilities, whose staff and residents are in priority group 1a1.
We will announce early next week when and where drive-thru vaccination will resume for 1a1 groups, funeral and mortuary service workers and the population over 75 years of age.

Meanwhile, for the second time since the pandemic struck, the health department has reported more than 1,000 new cases of COVID-19 in a single day.
The Department of Health reported an additional 1,020 coronavirus cases and 11 other virus-related deaths on Saturday, January 2.
The 1,020 coronavirus cases reported on Saturday came from 5,933 test results, a positivity rate of 17.2%. However, the test results do not reflect the previous 24 hour period and include testing over several days.
On December 17, the Department of Health reported 1,163 new cases of COVID-19, which remains the largest daily increase to date. As of March, the Department of Health has reported a total of 68,820 coronavirus cases and 914 deaths, classifying 61,027 cases as inactive / cured.
Active cases in Shelby County stand at 6,879, an increase from the 6,472 reported on Friday. A total of 833,952 coronavirus tests were performed in Shelby County, giving a positivity rate of 9%.
There were 586 COVID-19 patients in Memphis area hospitals as of 5 p.m. Thursday, the latest data available, according to the Tennessee Health Resource Tracking System. The health department will provide the weekend hospital data in its Monday update.
The capacity of hospitals for intensive care beds is at 95% and acute care beds are at 88%. The number of intensive care beds available is 24 with 287 acute care beds open. Bed capacity is calculated by subtracting patient occupied beds, unstaffed beds, and beds that are not otherwise available.
Of the 586 people hospitalized, 157 are in staffed beds in intensive care units and 429 in acute care beds.
Those who test positive for COVID or suspected of having the virus represent 40% of intensive care patients and 24% of acute care patients.
As of Jan. 1, 126,887 coronavirus vaccines were reported to be given in Tennessee, including 1.17% of Shelby Countians who received their first of two doses of the coronavirus vaccine, according to state data. The state plans to update the dashboard on Tuesdays and Fridays.
