President Trump continued his criticism of Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell on Twitter on Friday.

Trump has chosen Powell, a former private equity executive, to chair the Fed and succeed Janet Yellen in 2017. Powell began his term in February 2018.

Trump's scolding of Powell began last year, when the Federal Reserve raised interest rates. The four rate hikes in 2018 contributed to a sharp decline in the stock markets in December 2018. In early 2019, the Fed announced that it would change course and that it would delay the rate hike. Instead, after struggling against the weakening of economic statistics and trade tensions between the United States and China, the Fed cut interest rates in July.

Market participants expect the Fed to lower its interest rates again in September.
