NEW JERSEY – If you’re frustrated with figuring out where and when you can get the coronavirus vaccine in New Jersey, you’re not alone.

State officials have struggled with a shortage, daily problems and accidents in its COVID-19 vaccination system and confusion over how to get appointments.

Here is some information on getting an appointment in New Jersey.

Who is eligible?

  • Paid and unpaid health workers
  • Residents and workers of long-term care facilities and high-risk collective care facilities
  • First responders, including sworn law enforcement and fire professionals
  • People 65 and over
  • People aged 16 to 64 who have certain medical conditions that increase their risk of serious illness from COVID-19

The Food and Drug Administration has cleared emergency use of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for people 16 years of age and older, while the Moderna vaccine is recommended for people 18 years of age and older.

Where to get vaccinated

Eligible patients can pre-register through the state for an appointment. The process may not immediately give you an appointment date, but will put you on a list to alert you when an appointment becomes available.

Those who work or volunteer at certain health care facilities can make an appointment at their workplace. Veterans who receive care at Veterans Affairs health facilities or who live in VA long-term care facilities may be eligible for vaccines through the VA.

Tips and tricks

  • Join the New Jersey Covid Vaccine Info Facebook group. The 61,000-member group gives New Jersey residents the opportunity to share up-to-date information on vaccine availability.
  • To follow VaxxUpdates on Twitter. The page helps Garden State residents secure vaccine appointments with instant updates on availability.
  • CVS and Rite Aid have started scheduling COVID-19 appointments at venues that will receive the vaccines. But appointments fill up quickly.
  • Freehold’s CentraState Health System periodically opens registration. They will email you a link when you are eligible for an appointment.

  • Acme does not yet make COVID vaccines, but you can now sign up on their website to be alerted when the vaccine is available in your area.
  • ShopRite sometimes has a wait time to access its vaccine planner, but it allows the public to schedule appointments.
