Deep breath, Knicks nation.
Yes, fans around the world had every hope in the world that the franchise could win the first pick in the 2019 NBA draw and seize the opportunity to win the Duke phenomenon, Zion Williamson.
That was torn apart on Tuesday night, when the ping pong balls did not fall in the right direction, giving the Knicks the No. 3 pick. There was sadness on the part of the fans, epic tabloid covers and a lot of roasting from other NBA fans.
But now that the tough guys in the Knicks game have had a chance to (lose) sleep on, maybe they'll come to the same conclusion as me: it's not the worst thing that can happen. Here's why:
1. It could have been worse
The Cavaliers and Suns had the same chances as the Knicks – 14% of them were chosen – but Cleveland dropped to 5th and Phoenix to 6th. Imagine how you would feel if New York blew like this.
2. They could always use the choice to trade against Anthony Davis
Despite the fact that pelicans got the first pick and the opportunity to take Williamson, AD would still need New Orleans. What if the Pels could tell Williamson that they could associate him with Duke's mate, RJ Barrett, by swapping for # 3? The Lakers may still have a better package for The Brow, but they have the fourth choice, which is less appealing because …
3. There are three players everyone is talking about in this project
It would be William Morson, the leader of the state of Murray, Barrett and Murray. And if the Grizzlies – who have a lot of money in veteran Mike Conley – opt for Barrett rather than Morant?
