The Latinos who gathered in Los Angeles on Saturday, California, for a rally in support of the California recall Governor Gavin Newsom told Fox News about the issues that mattered to them the most. Many in the group felt misunderstood by Newsom.
“He talks about how he loves the Latino community, wants to help the Latino community but I didn’t see Governor Newsom here last year when Latino businesses were badly hurt,”
“They give the impression that the only problem that concerns us is immigration when it is completely false. We care about putting food on the table, having a job, being able to provide for our needs. families, to be able to go to a church that is open and not closed, ”Samantha Sobarzo told Fox News.
Several of the gathering participants described the importance of family, small business, religion and safety to the community.
“We work very hard, we take pride in what we do, so when he (Governor Gavin Newsom) shut down our businesses, I think a lot of Hispanics started to wake up,” Rachelle Hernandez told Fox News .
“I mean it’s their lifeline without their businesses, they can’t put food on the table,” she continued.
Go out polls in 2018, showed about two-thirds of Latinos supported by Newsom. Polls on the recall scheduled for September 14 have been mixed with vote in August showing that Latinos were evenly distributed, and a more recent survey showing that 66% of Latino voters would not support the recall. Latinos make up about 30% of registered voters.

Jonathan Hatami, LA County Assistant District Attorney, told Fox News that family and community safety are very important.
Another woman also felt safety was a priority for Latinos. “We can’t even walk the streets without someone approaching us, homeless camps everywhere… I’ve lived here all my life and I’ve never experienced such a homeless crisis like this here, “she told Fox News.
