The Philadelphia Eagles have hired Nick Sirianni to help the franchise into the post-Carson Wentz era, a time when the franchise will develop a young quarterback to lead the organization for years to come. It’s unclear whether that quarterback will be Jalen Hurts or a first-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, but Sirianni is confident any caller will succeed in the offensive system created by the coaching staff.

The Eagles have a young offensive coaching staff in place, starting with offensive coordinator Shane Steichen – who has already received rave reviews from NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Justin Herbert. Sirianni saw the progress that Herbert made in 2020, convincing him that Steichen can do the same in Philadelphia.

“The way he thinks and talks about the quarterback to make it easy for the quarterback – he’s just got a unique way,” Sirianni said in a one-on-one interview with Eagles Insider Dave Spadaro. “We saw that with Herbert, how he was able to take a young quarterback who’s never played a cinch in the NFL and turn him into Rookie of the Year. He’s got so much passion, especially when he is taking that position As we all know, it is the most important position in all sports.

“To have his expertise in this area, it will be huge for this football team.”

Sirianni doesn’t just have Steichen, who coached with the Los Angeles Chargers from 2013 to 2017, on his squad to help a young quarterback. He was also able to bring in Brian Johnson from the University of Florida as the team’s new quarterback coach, who has an impressive record with signal callers despite never coaching. in the NFL.

“You saw what he did with that attack in Florida. Super impressive,” Sirianni said. “He brings so many great ideas. He brings an element of the college game that we all have.”

Johnson is not related to Sirianni, but Hurts. He has known the Eagles quarterback since he was four and even tried to recruit Hurts when he was the quarterback coach at Mississippi State.

Sirianni is confident Steichen and Johnson can develop any young quarterback the Eagles bring, but it’s a strong sign for Hurts’ future whether he is the undisputed starter in 2021 or not.
