PITTSBURGH – The UPMC, Pennsylvania’s largest healthcare system and the Commonwealth’s largest non-government employer, continues to consider whether to require its 93,000 employees to be vaccinated against Covid-19.
While some hospitals and health systems across the country have mandated the vaccine, locals have not taken this step, at least as long as the Covid-19 vaccines remain in emergency use approval.
Dr Graham Snyder, medical director of infection prevention and hospital epidemiology at UPMC, said conversations about the vaccine and other prevention measures continue internally on a daily basis. But there was no decision on whether to make it mandatory.
“This does not mean that we will not impose a vaccine in the future,” Snyder said at a press conference on Tuesday, one of dozens of briefings the health system has held in the past. year and a half only focused on the Covid-19 pandemic. .
