Coming six behind with four minutes left in the 2021 CBRC Lakemont Park Summer Basketball League Division 3 championship game, Courtesy Ford needed to get things done quickly.

That’s exactly what the Williamsburg alumni team did, winning the next seven points to climb 31-30, then converting four straight free throws in the last minute for a relentless 35-34 victory.

After Darrin Carper made two foul shots with one minute remaining, Jordan Greaser drained a pair from the line with 32 seconds left.

Rocksolid’s final possession ended with a pair of shots that were irrelevant before time ran out.

“For Jordan to do those two free throws after going 0-for-4 from the front line was huge. He really came for us ”, Courtesy of top scorer Jake Harker. “We made buckets when we needed to make them. Everyone contributed. That’s how it’s been all season.

Adam Hileman started the run courtesy 7-0 with a long 3 points for his only points of the game.

Harker called with a back 3 missed, and Carper scored on the break from a Jeff Detwiler feed.

“We struggled in the first half. It was a tough shooting night for both teams, but we found a way ”, said Detwiler. “We had guys who did some big shots on the home stretch.”

Ryan McClain stopped the courtesy run with a bucket inside, and Mydell Loner added two free throws with 1:11 left to give Rocksolid a brief 34-31 advantage.

Trailing 14-11 at half-time, Harker kicked off Courtesy’s offense with eight of his 10 points at the start of the second half after scoring none in the first .

“I had my kids here watching and I really wanted to play for them. Show them how to cope even when you are having difficulty and set an example ”, Harker said.

Courtesy also got a 3 point from Dalton Price and a quick break bucket from Drew Hileman early in the second half for a 24-20 lead.

Price finished with seven points and Greaser added five.

Rocksolid (9-4) responded with a 10-0 run. Loner started the run with a layup and then sandwiched four free throws around a pair of Jim Rush free kicks. Rush finished the run with a bucket on a 3-1 break to give Rocksolid a 30-24 lead.

Loner finished with 10 points, a team high, and seven rebounds. McClain added nine points and Brock Imperioli scored six on a pair of 3 points in the first half

The match was interrupted twice in the first half by rain. The first delay arrived at 3:29 am and lasted about 10 minutes. After the restart, a heavier drop struck with 1:08 on the clock, causing a longer delay.
