Winchesters “Carry On” – Deadline

Thursday night, The CW’s longest series, Supernatural, finished his 15-year run in spectacular fashion. In “Carry On” – directed by Robert Singer, from a screenplay by Andrew Dabb – beloved monster hunter Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) meets an untimely end, with his brother Sam (Jared Padalecki) in the play .

Episode 1520 opens with an average, relaxed morning for the duo, during which they go about their routine, eat breakfast, do chores, and wipe their guns. While waiting for a word of supernatural activity, the brothers encounter none, deciding to use their free time to attend an event called Pie Fest. Dean, for his part, thought he was destined to attend the gathering. Sam, meanwhile, is caught in his head, mourning his two lost friends, Castiel (Misha Collins) and Jack (Alexander Calvert). The first was recently drawn into the heavenly known as The Empty empty. Meanwhile, the latter has taken on the role of God, following the disappearance of Chuck (Rob Benedict) in last week’s episode. Like Sam, Dean faces a great amount of pain – but from his perspective, Sam has to go on living his life. After all, that’s exactly what Jack and Cas would have wanted for him.

After changing Sam’s mood, Dean joins his brother to gorge on pies, until they come across a new case, involving the kidnapping of a man and his children. A profile of the suspects is drawn, depicting men wearing skull masks, and when Officers Kripke and Singer – clearly named for Supernatural creator Eric Kripke and co-showrunner Robert Singer – arrive on stage, they recognize the masked men. Of course, they prove to be a pair of vampires, Sam and Dean hunt down quickly.

Catching the creatures’ attention by shooting one of them with a blood-soaked bullet, the brothers learn that the episode’s crime is part of a ritual involving the biannual child abduction. During this supernatural encounter, Dean then comes to a second surprising realization: the leader of this nest of is Jenny (Christine Chatelain), a young woman who had been transformed into a vampire in season 1.

Several vampires meet their bloody end, although Dean is badly injured in combat and then immobilized. “You knew it was going to end like this for me”, he reassures his brother moved. “We had a hell of a ride. As Sam seems determined to let Dean die and bring him back to the other side, Dean declines the offer, sharing in his final moments how proud he is of his brother, whom he has always admired for his strength. Dean also takes the opportunity for another revelation, admitting that the night he first came to see Sam at Stanford University, he almost did not continue their reunion for fear of being rejected by his brother.

After a last loving moment, during which Dean tells Sam to get on with his life – as he had done earlier in the episode – Dean dies. Later, he goes to heaven, where he finds his father figure, Bobby (Jim Beaver). The deceased hunter tells Dean that with Jack in Heaven everything went well. At the same time, Dean learns that his parents, John (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Mary (Samantha Smith), are nearby and that he will soon be reunited with them too.

As Dean takes a ride in his heavenly version of the Impala known as the Baby, Sam mourns his brother’s death, gives him a hunter’s funeral, then comes back to life, with a new case to pursue. .

Flashing forward, we learn that Sam has a son named after his late brother, and we watch him grow up. Then, in a scene reflecting Dean’s last, we see an elderly Sam passing away, with his loving son nearby. Ultimately, Sam and Dean are reunited in paradise, where they can finally find peace.

Begun in 2005, Supernatural holds the record for the longest-running fantasy series in American television history – and its reputation as one of the great genres of the television series will no doubt “continue.”
