Wisconsin fires Jalen Berger

MADISON, Wisconsin – Jalen berger is no longer a member of the University of Wisconsin football team. The Badgers announced on Sunday that the Redshirt first-year fullback was dismissed just five games into the 2021 season.

Berger was not in action in Saturday’s 24-0 win over Illinois. It was the second time this season that UW has kept the New Jersey native on the sidelines. Even with the junior hatchback Isaac guerendo with an unspecified injury, UW went with a walk-in junior Brady schipper like tailgate # 3 as Berger looked sideways.

Asked about Berger’s absence, the head coach Paul chryst refused to give much insight after Saturday’s win.

“Loved the way Braelon (Braelon Allen) and Chez (At Mellusi) were going, “Chryst said after Saturday’s win.” Schip played a role for us that I thought was fair. “

Berger, who also didn’t play in the season opener against Penn State, had contributed 88 yards and one touchdown on 24 carries this season. After getting 15 runs in week two against Eastern Michigan, Berger had just nine more touches in UW’s next two games against Notre Dame and Michigan.

This stems from a real promising freshman season in which Berger ran for 301 yards and two touchdowns in just four appearances, averaging 5.0 yards per carry in 2020.

UW (2-3, 1-2) have been able to handle the ball very well without Berger so far. Against the Illini, the Badgers racked up a high of 391 rushing yards, averaging 6.5 yards per attempt. Against Penn State, UW amassed 180 rushing yards.

A former four-star and All-American Bowl rookie, Berger had other scholarship offers in Alabama, Ohio State, LSU, Florida, Oregon, Penn State, Michigan, Baylor, North Carolina and many more. He was the nation’s 15th running back in the 2020 recruiting class, according to the 247sports composite.

Berger is the third full-back to leave the UW program this season, joining real freshmen Antwan roberts (transfer portal) and Loyal Crawford (rejected), who were involved in an incident on campus before the opening of the 2021 season.

Wisconsin returns to action on Saturday to welcome the military. Kick-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Camp Randall Stadium.
