MADISON, Wisconsin – As local health officials warn Dane County may cross CDC threshold for significant spread of COVID in the coming days, the state of Wisconsin is reporting nearly 900 new cases across the Status in the last 24 hours.
The latest figures updated on Thursday show 899 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed on Wednesday, continuing a trend from last week of rapidly increasing the number of cases. A total of 795 cases were reported on Tuesday and 950 cases were reported on Monday.
This increase pushed the 7-day average for new cases to 556. A month ago, the 7-day average for new cases was only 70 per day. The 7-day average has not been this high since May 8, when the state averaged 571 cases per day.
State health officials on Wednesday expressed concern as the number of cases rose to 7 times the level it was in June.
President Joe Biden is expected to address the nation this afternoon on the growing number of COVID cases across the country as the Delta variant spreads.
Earlier this week, the CDC recommended everyone in areas with significant levels of COVID transmission – including those who have been fully vaccinated – to return to wearing masks indoors to help prevent the spread of the Delta variant of the virus. Public Health Madison & Dane County, followed by a strong recommendation that residents of Dane County do the same, even though the county has one of the highest vaccination rates in the country.
