President Donald Trump’s senior campaign lawyer in Wisconsin is trying to reject his own vote, claiming it was illegal.
Lawyer Jim Troupis has asked the Dane County Council of Solicitors to invalidate all mail-in ballots that were cast in person, according to documents obtained by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Troupis and his wife both voted using this method. According to the Sentinel Journal, their names were even on documents he submitted to the county canvassing council.
“I’m sure I’m on this list,” he told the outlet.
Instructions on absentee ballots mailed to voters from Wisconsin told residents they could mail them back with a witness signature or return them to their city clerk’s office in person before the day. of the ballot. If voters used the latter method to vote, they also had to show photo ID.
Troupis himself is a former Dane County judge. He retired from his own law firm in 2013, but appeared to return to law to represent the Trump campaign. His brother, Chris Troupis, also represents the Trump campaign, according to Law & Crime. Jim Troupis did not immediately respond to Insider’s requests for comment.
The Trump campaign has called for recounts in Dane and Milwaukee counties after President-elect Joe Biden won the state by more than 20,000 votes. The recounts, which are expected to end before the Dec. 1 poll certification deadline, have delayed certification of the votes, and the Trump campaign is using the delay to raise new challenges to invalidate the votes.
In addition to in-person mail-in ballots, the campaign called on the Dane County Canvassers’ Council to invalidate in-person advance ballots, ballots cast by people who have reported being incarcerated for a period of time. indefinite, mail ballots where the clerks filled out part of the witness form and mail ballots without a written request that can be immediately traced, according to the Sentinel Journal.
Trump and his allies have so far suffered resounding losses in court, with zero wins out of 22 lawsuits filed.
