MADISON, Wisconsin – Some Wisconsin Walgreens locations will begin supplying COVID-19 vaccines as part of the federal retail pharmacy program, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services said Thursday.
The program launched this week aims to accelerate immunization efforts in underserved communities.
“This partnership is another tool to support the great work being done by local public health in our communities,” Governor Tony Evers said in a press release.
The amount of COVID-19 vaccines available is still limited nationally, so Wisconsin DHS says the program will start small and grow as supply increases. The program will begin with a total of 178 Walgreens locations across the participating state.
DHS says the vaccines distributed to Walgreens will be in addition to the number of vaccines currently allocated in Wisconsin. 17,800 additional doses of Moderna vaccine will be sent to 178 Walgreens sites.
Anyone who is eligible for the vaccine can make an appointment on the Walgreens website.
People currently eligible for the vaccine include frontline healthcare workers, residents of skilled nursing and long-term care facilities, police and firefighters, correctional staff, and adults 65 years of age and older.
