CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State University Wolstein Center COVID-19 mass vaccination site disappeared from the state’s vaccine provider portal on Friday because there are no open spots at this time. The portal will include spots from the Wolstein Center when more become available, according to the Ohio Department of Health.
It was another hiccup in the rollout of a vaccine in the state that has been criticized as frustrating, time-consuming and difficult, especially for the elderly and those without internet access.
Only a portion of the early days of appointments at Wolstein Center were posted for online booking on Thursday, the first day appointments could be made, ODH said in an email Friday.
“As there is currently no appointment on the online portal, the location does not appear. However, as more appointments are added, under the leadership of (the Federal Emergency Management Agency), she will be listed again, ”said a spokesperson for the ODH.
“We are currently working closely with our FEMA partners to strategically post thousands of appointments in the near future. Once we receive instructions from FEMA, additional nominations will be released, ”said a spokesperson for the ODH.
More than 17,000 Ohio residents signed up on Thursday, the first day of registration for the Wolstein Center mass COVID-19 vaccination site, Governor Mike DeWine said at Thursday’s press conference.
The Wolstein Center vaccination site will be able to administer up to 6,000 vaccines per day, seven days a week, for eight weeks. Vaccinations will begin on Wednesday March 17.
Some dating candidates were surprised and frustrated on Friday by their inability to book a vaccination appointment at the downtown mass vaccination site.
The state has touted its new COVID-19 vaccine website, gettheshot.coronavirus.ohio.gov, as the place where eligible Ohioans can register for vaccines at the Wolstein Center and other places. Individuals can also register by phone at 1-833-427-5634.
The state’s new central registration portal, and mass vaccination sites such as the Wolstein Center, were attempts to streamline the process of finding vaccination appointments.
Eligibility for the COVID-19 vaccine extended Thursday to people aged 50 and over, people with type 2 diabetes and end-stage kidney disease.
