JACKSON, Mississippi (WAP) – A woman and her two adult children died from COVID-19 within weeks of each other.
“I want you all to look me in the eye; this stuff is real. People are dying, ”said JC Johnson.
Johnson is preparing for the unimaginable: burying his sister, niece and nephew – all dead from COVID-19. Johnson’s sister, Patricia, who was in her sixties, and her children, who were in their forties, were from Mississippi and lived in Florida.
Johnson’s nephew, Heath, had been in hospital with the virus fighting for his life, but he was still participating in family Zoom calls.
Her niece died suddenly from COVID-19 after going to a hospital emergency room in Florida. He then received another heartbreaking call.
“While my niece had me on the phone to tell me about her brother, within five minutes the hospital would call me to tell me about my sister,” Johnson said.
Patricia and her son Heath had died within minutes of the virus.
Johnson said the family had been exposed to someone who had not communicated that he had COVID-19. While Johnson has said he feels a huge void, it is God’s grace that keeps him through the day.
“People ask me, ‘How are you? How are you doing ?’ Well, one thing’s for sure, it’s not my strength, ”Johnson said.
As the family prepares to let their loved ones rest in Jackson, Johnson hopes the community takes the virus and its impact seriously. He said he would always keep the memories and bond he had with his sister and how she loved her children.
“She always took her kids with her and she always went out of her way to make sure they had what they needed,” Johnson said.
