CHARLOTTE, North Carolina – A woman was shot dead by police after trying to run over an officer with her vehicle in South Charlotte on Thursday afternoon, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said.

Authorities responded to the scene on Tyvola Road near South Boulevard.

Investigators said a woman shot at a beauty store near Tyvola Road. After the police arrived at the store, the woman attempted to hit an officer who was on a motorcycle.

Officials said police did their best to avoid the woman’s vehicle, but ended up firing shots, hitting her.

The woman then attempted to leave the scene, leading authorities in a vehicle chase before being arrested near Cedar Creek Lane. Police said she was taken to a local hospital for her injuries. His condition has not been released.

Authorities said the officer involved was not injured in the incident.

Mark Becker, of Channel 9, was at the scene and said a parking lot along Tyvola Road was sealed off with crime scene tape.
