The Trojans suffered just one loss in the Downriver League and were fortunate enough to be tied with the Warriors for first place.

However, Woodhaven’s powerful side took a three touchdown lead at halftime and took a 44-12 victory in front of a huge Homecoming crowd.

For the Warriors (6-0, 5-0 DRL), ranked No.10 in the state in Division 1, Devin Henry rushed for 288 yards and two touchdowns while quarterback Ashton Mohlman pitched for 175 yards and four scores. Most of Henry’s damage came in the second half, including an 89-yard touchdown.

Trenton quarterback Ty Norgren (3-3, 3-2 DRL) hit a touchdown and rushed for one.

Two of Mohlman’s goals came from Darion Nundley, the first of which was a 31-yard grab halfway through the first quarter. PAT was blocked and Woodhaven was leading 6-0.

Right at the start of the second quarter, Mohlman connected with Ethan Czajkowski for a 33-yard touchdown. The main caller ran in the 2-point conversion and put his team up 14-0.

On the last play of the first half, Nundley opened up in the end zone and caught a short pass from Mohlman. Chris Banks caught the 2-point conversion and the Violet and White were leading 22-0 at the break.

Trenton came out strong on defense in the second half and forced a turnaround on the downs, topped by a sack from Logan Michels.

But overall, the Trojans couldn’t contain Henry and he broke free for several big wins over the last two quarters.

With 5:16 left in the third, the junior ran to the end zone at 18 yards. Banks caught the 2-point conversion, this time on a pitch from Andrew Ewald, to make it a 30-0 game.

The visitors got their first points when Norgren found Jason Marshall open and he headed for the end zone with around 3:30 to play.

Soon after, the hosts added seven more points when Mohlman and Banks hooked up for a 30-yard touchdown and kicker Nico Smith hit the PAT.

Brock Beaudrie of Trenton caught a pass near the Warriors’ 15-yard line on the final play of the third quarter. An interception of Jacob Navarro of Woodhaven early in the fourth ended the threat.

With the ball back, Mohlman handed it over to Henry and he bolted 89 yards down the straight sideline for his second touchdown of the game. Smith passed the PAT and it capped the Warrior’s score for the night.

Near the last minute, a Beaudrie run allowed the Trojans to place themselves on the Woodhaven 2-yard line. Norgren pushed his way for a score with 10 seconds left.

Next up for the Warriors is a game at Wyandotte Roosevelt on Friday night. Trenton will host Edsel Ford the same evening.
