Woody Allen opened up about the allegations against him as well as his relationship with his wife Soon-Yi Previn in a recently published interview.
The beleaguered 85-year-old filmmaker spoke to “CBS Sunday Morning” in July 2020 for his first in-depth on-camera interview in America in nearly three decades. Despite filming several months ago, the interview debuted on streaming service Paramount + on Sunday, just two weeks after the conclusion of HBO’s documentary “Allen v. Farrow ”.
In the interview, Allen responds directly to the allegations made against him by his adopted daughter, Dylan Farrow, who claims to have assaulted her when she was 7. Although he denied the veracity of these claims, Allen told CBS’s Lee Cowan that he didn’t think Dylan was lying.
“I believe she thinks it,” Allen says (via Deadline). “She was a good girl. I don’t believe she is making things up. I don’t believe she is lying. I believe she believes it.”

Allen has hinted in the past that Dylan may have been misled into thinking something had happened that he hadn’t said, since Dylan’s claims came in the middle of a battle of babysat with his ex-girlfriend Mia Farrow in 1992.
“It’s so absurd, and yet the smear stuck,” Allen says in the interview. “And they still prefer to hang on, if not the idea that I assaulted Dylan, the possibility that I assaulted her.” Nothing that I have ever done with Dylan in my life can be misinterpreted like this.

He continues: “There was no logic in that at first glance. Why is a 57 year old guy who has never been accused of anything in my life, I will suddenly drive in the middle of a contentious brawl over custody at Mia’s country house (with) a 7-year-old girl. That’s right – on the surface, I didn’t even think it needed an investigation. “
Allen admitted that he would like to have a conversation with Dylan on the subject, but noted that he had not spoken to her for many years.
The filmmaker went on to discuss actors like Colin Firth, Timothée Chalamet and Kate Winslet, who have distanced themselves from him after working with him in the past given the renewed attention given to the allegations, calling them “well-meaning but foolish ”.
“All they do is persecute a perfectly innocent person and allow this lie,” he said (via Yahoo Entertainment).

The lengthy interview also discussed Allen’s controversial relationship with Previn. The duo met when Soon-Yi was Mia Farrow’s adopted daughter and started a relationship despite their 35-year age difference.
“I would say the many women I have dated in my life – many women – were all what the appropriate police would call appropriate, age appropriate,” he explained. “Diane Keaton, Mia Farrow, [second wife] Louise Lasser, my first wife … until Soon-Yi, which is unusual for me.
“If you had told me that I was going to get married – happily married – to an Asian woman, much younger than me, not in show business, I would have said, ‘Well the chances are very slim. I don’t think you’re going to be right. But that’s what happened. “
He acknowledged that the circumstances in which they met were unusual, but noted that their relationship has come together in a less outrageous way than people realize.

“I’ve never slept at Mia’s in all the years I’ve been dating her,” Allen told Cowan. “We had a relationship but there never would have been a marital relationship … It ended up being a relationship of convenience after a while.”

He noted that “the last thing in the world anyone wanted was to hurt someone’s feelings.”
Allen also admitted that Mia finding nude photos of Soon-Yi in his possession was not the way he wanted everyone to find out.
