The road to WrestleMania is wide open and the next leg of the journey is Sunday evening with the presentation of the annual Elimination Chamber event. The Chamber of Elimination show every year carries significant weight when it comes to major WrestleMania storylines, and this year will be no different.
The Elimination Chamber matches will of course headline the event. Two contestants start the match in the ring with a cage surrounding the square circle and four other contestants in pods surrounding the ring. Every five minutes, one of the four remaining contestants is randomly selected to enter the match. Competitors are eliminated by pinfall or by submission until one of them remains the winner.
The WWE Elimination Chamber descends from inside the ThunderDome at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla. On Sunday, February 21. The event kicks off at 7 p.m. ET and will be broadcast live on the WWE Network. The kickoff show to help kick off the Elimination Chamber festivities will begin one hour before 6 p.m.
Let’s take a look at what we know about Sunday’s Elimination Chamber event.
WWE Elimination Chamber Matches
WWE Championship – Drew McIntyre (c) vs. Randy Orton vs. AJ Styles vs. Jeff Hardy vs. Sheamus vs. Kofi Kingston (Elimination Chamber): As it looks increasingly likely that Edge will choose to face Roman Reigns at WrestleMania after winning the Royal Rumble, WWE must head to a Mania fight for McIntyre. The other five men in the match are former world champions. The Miz was originally in the match, but gave up his place in hopes of cashing the Money in the Bank contract on a run-down winner, allowing Kingston to earn his place in the match. Sheamus won a glove match to secure his position as the last man to enter the elimination chamber.
King Corbin vs. Kevin Owens vs. Cesaro vs. Daniel Bryan vs. Sami Zayn vs. Jey Uso (Elimination Chamber): Roman Reigns managed to come out of a House title defense and will now defend his title later in the night against the winner of that House elimination match. Bryan and Cesaro secured their place by winning a qualifying match against Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode. Zayn and Corbin teamed up to earn their place by defeating Dominik and Rey Mysterio. Uso and Owens were qualified in the match by Adam Pearce, putting Reigns’ biggest rival and biggest substitute in the match.
Universal Championship – Roman Reigns (c) vs Elimination Chamber winner: As mentioned, Paul Heyman was successful in preventing Reigns from defending the title inside the Elimination Chamber by stating that his contractual obligations were only to defend the title. at the a la carte disposal chamber, not inside the actual structure. Logic suggests that Reigns will face Owens one last time as Bryan and Cesaro don’t make sense for a one-off and heel-to-heel title defense for Reigns either.
Raw Women’s Championship – Asuka (c) vs. Lacey Evans: Evans’ biggest issues are with Charlotte Flair, and her relationship with Ric Flair has certainly intensified their rivalry. Evans managed to secure his ticket to a title match in a singles match with Charlotte with a title shot in play. Charlotte snapped and attacked Evans, refusing to break and pushing the referee for disqualification, sending Evans out. in a match with Asuka. This match appears to be about to be officially called off with the news that Evans is pregnant, although WWE has not officially confirmed any changes.
United States Championship – Bobby Lashley (c) vs. Keith Lee vs. Riddle: Lashley has been a force of nature since failing to win the Royal Rumble. After brutally attacking Riddle in a match on Raw, Lashley struck again after Lee defeated Riddle in the singles, knocking out both men. Following the attack, the Triple Threat match was announced for the Elimination Chamber event.
Women’s team championship – Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler (c) vs. Sasha Banks and Bianca Belair: This game was announced during the home edition of SmackDown. During the broadcast, the champions appearing on “Ding Dong, Hello!” led to chaos and a six-way tag with the SmackDown Women’s Champion and the Royal Rumble winner which also included Bayley and Reginald.
