Men’s Royal Rumble winner Edge making his third WWE TV appearance this week seemed to mean nothing to SmackDown audiences on Friday night. The episode attracted an average of 2.126 million viewers in the nationwide fast, down 4.6% from the number of nights on last week’s come-home show Royal Rumble.
SmackDown audiences were consistent throughout the show, dropping 1.7% from hour 1 to hour 2. The episode attracted an average of 2.144 million viewers in the first hour and 2.108 million viewers in the second hour.
Fox finished last among the major networks in terms of total viewers, with NBC’s average of 2.9 million viewers coming the closest. SmackDown got a score of 0.6 in the 18-49 demo, which is the same day-to-day number it has shot each of the past three weeks. SmackDown was second in network lineup in 18-49, finishing behind ABC’s Shark Tank.
The 18-34 demo was also the same as the one with a rating of 0.3. This followed Shark Tank and was tied for second place on networks.
All of the major networks broadcast original first-run programming, which probably explains the drop in SmackDown audiences.
Year over year, SmackDown saw a 16.5% drop in viewership, 20% for 18-49 year olds and 33.3% for 18-34 year olds.
Here’s a look at the last 10 weeks of overnight audiences for SmackDown (note: the December 18 episode aired on FS1):
