(CNN) – The former WWE star, Ashley Massaro, has died, the organization said Thursday. She was 39 years old.

"We are saddened to learn of the tragic death of former WWE superstar, Ashley Massaro," said WWE in a statement. "WWE offers its condolences to the family and friends of Ashley."

Massaro was at the WWE between 2005 and 2008, and her death comes two months after she declared that she was training to return to the fight.

"I'm going round the ring starting next week … super pumped and ready to see what I've left in my old boots!" she tweeted in March.

Friends, fans and former colleagues shared their condolences and memories shortly after the announcement of his passing.

"I do not know what to say, Ashley was my partner in Wrestlemania, sometimes my wife on the road, we organized countless photo shoots and press days, and it seems like yesterday that Ashley was a part of important part of my life, I'm sorry for her family, "tweeted Maria Kanellis Bennett.

Professional wrestler Torrie Wilson has described her as one of the most enjoyable people she's ever known.

"I can not even begin to explain how devastated I am," she said.

Massaro also participated in the CBS "Survivor" show a decade or so ago. WWE has not provided any details on the cause of his death.
