Xavien Howard has officially requested a trade with the Miami Dolphins

Nothing like your classic 8:20 p.m. on a Tuesday night news dump from your Instagram when Bohemian Rhapsody and X-Men First Class are at the same time. Well, that’s what Xavien Howard just did when he informed the Miami Dolphins (I’m sure they already knew about it) and the public that he wants a trade to happen.

Let me be the billionth person to say it sucks. It has sucked since the news started months ago that Howard wanted more money and if he didn’t get any he was going to fire all the shots he pulled. I know there was a small portion of people who were hopeful and squeezing their Xavien Howard shirts tight, but I think the majority of us knew that day was coming. This still does not improve the timeliness of this reality.

In essence, if you read what Howard wrote, he feels like the Dolphins didn’t respect him after going over his contract. He says he was given the arduous task of playing the cornerback without additional help, while other cornerbacks such as Byron Jones, who makes more money than Howard, have been given safety assistance .

I can see Howard’s point but still feel like I need someone to tell me that everything will be fine. It’s no fun losing the best player on the team, which the Dolphins are doing very well. I just want Xavien Howard to play for the Dolphins, but sadly that will never happen again.

Also, the whole part where he said he didn’t understand the contract he signed in 2018, yeah, it’s not going to go well. I may not have a firm grip on signing the most important paper of your life. It’s not like you buy a 2017 Kia Forte or something like that.

You have to think that the Dolphins will accept nothing less than a 1st round pick and maybe a mid-round pick for Howard. They don’t have to do anything, so they can just come up with offers and choose the best one.

Where that puts the Dolphins is that they have to replace a guy who had 10 INTs last year. Not to say that Noah Igbinoghene will release stats like that or that he will even be the guy who ends up being the other starting cornerback in front of Jones. Anyone who’s going to have major shoes to fill in and the rest of the Dolphins defense, damn it, even the whole team just learned that they have to be better than they thought they were because Xavien Howard is so damn good.

The Miami Dolphins got worse tonight and it’s no fun to think about it. Hey, at least training camp starts tomorrow. I am sure it will be a very calm and gentle day with little to do.

By the way, I have to say I appreciate Marshawn Lynch’s reminder about being in camp just so he doesn’t get fined. A classic I must say.
