XQc banned from Twitch, potentially for watching Olympic highlights

XQc received a ban from Twitch today after watching Olympic highlights which he said got him “DMCA live”.

In a tweet about the ban, xQc claimed he believed he was taking “necessary precautions” and “didn’t expect” to be banned.

“I really wasn’t expecting it but I [could’ve] easily avoided that, ”xQc said. “Sorry to everyone involved including the viewers. I’ll be better / smarter next time around and follow the guidelines more strictly.

StreamerBans, a website that tracks disciplinary action against streamers, notes that this is the fourth ban on xQc on the platform since the site began tracking its activity in 2019. It s This is his first ban in 2021. Last year he was banned three times, one of which was just for a day.

Trying to infer where the ban came from, Esports Talk’s Jake Lucky posted on twitter that the ban was likely for xQc “watching Olympics highlights streaming”.

If true, the withdrawal would follow a very restrictive approach that the Games have taken to protect the media rights of their partners.

So far during the Tokyo Olympics, many social media accounts have been sanctioned for posting videos to sites like Instagram and Twitter. NBC owns the rights to broadcast the Olympics in the United States
