The New York Yankees will host the Boston Red Sox to kick off the second half of Major League Baseball’s regular season on Friday night after Thursday’s game was postponed due to positive COVID-19 tests for six Yankees players. The postponed game will be caught in a doubles schedule on August 17 at Yankee Stadium.
“After testing and tracing contacts involving members of the New York Yankees organization, the Club’s home game tonight against the Boston Red Sox at Yankee Stadium will go as planned,” the Yankees said in a statement Friday afternoon.
General manager Brian Cashman told reporters on Thursday that the Yankees have three positive cases and three pending. All six were subsequently confirmed positive, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN. All six players – Jonathan Loaisiga, Nestor Cortes Jr., Wandy Peralta, Aaron Judge, Kyle Higashioka and Gio Urshela – have been placed on the COVID-19 list.
