Yankees, Astros rosters Friday | Luke Sees Out Day After Hand Pierced (9/21)

HOUSTON – The Yankees’ first visit to Houston since the 2019 ALCS will not be about repaying losses or cheating by the Astros.

There are more pressing issues to focus on. This final streak before the All-Star break will create momentum for a potential second half or be another dagger for what has been a very disappointing first half.

The first pitch for the opening of the Friday Night Series at Minute Maid Park is 8:10 p.m. EST.

The Yankees started the two-city roadtrip taking two of three from the Seattle Mariners, but their three-game winning streak ended Thursday when they were hit by a hit in a 4-0 loss. The setback left the Yankees with a 44-42 record.

The Yankees’ roster is without first baseman Luke Voit, who does not play the day after with a slap to the right hand in Thursday’s game in Seattle.

The Astros’ roster misses shortstop Carlos Correa, who is ill and may not be available to play in a reserve role.

The pitching game was Yankees left-hander Nestor Cortes (0-0, 1.29) against Astros right-hander Jake Odorizzi (3-3, 3.70).

This will be the second start for Cortes, who gave the Yankees a much-needed boost on his debut last Sunday in Game 2 of their Subway Series doubles program by limiting the Mets to one point and two hits in 3 1/3 sleeves. The Yanks won the game to end a losing streak.

The Yankees will likely have their hands full with Odorizzi, who is 3-1 with a 2.16 ERA in his last seven outings, including six as a starter.
