When Yeng Guiao inherited the job of becoming head coach of Gilas Pilipinas, there was a lot of pressure.
In addition to trying to bring Gilas back to the World Cup, Guiao also has the responsibility to change the image of the national men's basketball team, following the fight on July 2.
With this pressure on him, Guiao provided a moment of light that became viral during one of their practices for the match in Iran last Wednesday.
One of his best pistols, Paul Lee, posted a video on Instagram that went viral. The video saw Guiao, who is probably a good 5-foot-7, throwing an inverted dunk. However, the rim was lowered and Guiao kindly took advantage.
"Show me what your coach has got? My coach was ready for tomorrow's game! The legend of Lee's message was read with the keyword "My Coach Bounced".
"Ine-entertain ko lang" yung sarili ko as they warmed up. I did not know the video na kinukunan pala ako ng, "recalls Guiao smiling. "I was just trying to take advantage of that time, nahita ko 'yung ring." Sabi Ko, samantalahin ko "yung pagkakataon.
"So it's a good vigil, because there's humor to that, and siguro, it's also something that will lighten the atmosphere, eliminate some of the pressure."
The video made a lot of laughs, not only in the Philippines, but also abroad.
Guiao continues however to write a new chapter for Gilas. And he meets this challenge by directing Gilas to unexplored territories.
"But again, the water under the bridge, so we look forward to a new chapter in the episodes or history of the national team Gilas."
