Google promised Nest users earlier this year to migrate to more secure Google accounts, and now is the time to begin this process. Both the Nest app and the website offer to migrate your account, but be aware that you will not be able to go back if you change your mind.

Migrating your account is not necessarily difficult, but there are many steps and some caveats. You can access the migration wizard from the app or by logging into your Nest Home on the website. However, the web portal seems at this moment buggy. Once you've migrated to a Google Account, you'll see the same members and home devices in Nest apps and Google Home. Your home devices will also be automatically linked to your Nest hardware in the future without any additional steps. Nest subscriptions will also be moved to the Google Store.

If you still cling to one of Works' services with Nest, you will have to leave them to emigrate. You will also need to invite members home again and they will not be able to use the Nest x Yale Lock or Nest Secure Keyboard until they complete the migration. So, make sure you do not lock anyone up. Due to the functioning of personal accounts, anyone you invite can delete you Account. This is not ideal.

Although you can choose to stay in a Nest Account, do not expect it to be viable forever. I would not be surprised if Google is starting to require the migration of Nest's future devices and features.
