You can see Venus and Mars align in a “planetary conjunction” Monday night

The “red planet” and “the evening star” will meet in a near embrace early next week at one of the best sky-watching events of the year.

Venus and Mars will appear very close to each other for a “planetary conjunction” on the night of July 12th. In the early hours of the 13th, the pair will be closer, according to NASA.

Although the planets appear to be only half a degree apart, they will actually still be very far apart. This illusion is known as the “planetary conjunction,” NASA officials said.

After the sky-viewing event, Venus will continue to move each evening to the left, away from Mars and towards the bright star Regulus, according to NASA.

NASA has said Venus and Mars are “targets for the next generation of space exploration.” New missions to study Venus have already been announced.
