NEW BEDFORD, MASS. (WHDH) – BOSTON (AP) – An earthquake hit southern New England on Sunday morning, but no serious damage was reported.

According to Randy Baldwin, a geophysicist at the US Geological Survey’s National Earthquake Information Center, the earthquake concentrated a few miles off the coast of New Bedford in Buzzards Bay just after 9 a.m.

The USGS initially said the earthquake had a magnitude of 4.0, but it was later downgraded to 3.6.

The earthquake struck to a depth of just over 15 kilometers (9.3 miles) and was felt in southeastern Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut.

Shannon Jenkins lives in South Dartmouth, just 7 miles from the quake’s epicenter, and said it rocked her home.

“It was as if you heard a bomb go off. It’s kind of the sound that it produces. It was really quite loud, ”Jenkins said. “” You could feel the house shaking. You could kind of feel it in your chest.
