Earlier this week, Google Clock had supported music alarms for YouTube Music, while the streaming service had been integrated last month by Android Auto to version 3.03. This update has also added rudimentary support for playing audio files on the device.
Being able to play downloaded audio files is an important step in YouTube Music one day, replacing Play Music as the default Android app. For several versions, we are using an interface in YouTube Music to view all the audio files that you have locally on your device.
This user interface is still in progress – YouTube Music 3.05 (see below) continues, but we missed version 3.03 in mid-February to open and play local audio files, such as .mp3 and .m4a .
Tap a downloaded audio file (from Gmail or the Files app) to launch the "Open With" Android prompt, in which YouTube Music is now listed. The resulting player is fairly rudimentary and identical to Play Music with a cover (if any), the title of the song, its duration, playback / pause and a scrubber. This black overlay theme is the backplane going up to the bright red cleaner and of course the "YT Music" logo, which can be tapped to open the full application.
This player appears more like a preview and does not play the selected file in YouTube Music because closing the window will stop playback. This song file will not appear in the Now Playing interface of YouTube Music.
At the first launch, users must grant YouTube Music "Standard" Storage permission to "access photos, media files, and files stored on your device." for the latest versions.
YouTube Music 3.05 APK Insight
Version 3.05 of YouTube Music does not guarantee complete disassembly, but offers channels explicitly related to the future possibility of "Play audio files from your device". This built-in prompt should ask users to grant the Storage permission.
