YouTube Music tests another “balance sheet of the year 2020”

Although we are well into the new year, YouTube Music seems to be trying to give users a review of the year 2020. Hopefully this iteration will be rolled out widely.

Google’s streaming service was first seen testing a “Year in Review” playlist of your top songs in November. It was widely rolled out in early December along with other genre compilations. A week later, some users started receiving a “Your Music Journey 2020” with some stats.

Sent via email, that’s what subscribers really wanted from YouTube Music. However, that competitor Spotify Wrapped and Apple Music Replay has not rolled out widely, especially since January has ended and February has begun.

Some YouTube Music members now see a “Year in Review” in the Android app. If it’s online, you can tap your profile avatar in the upper right corner to find the backspace icon in the account menu between “History” and “Paid Memberships”.

This “Year in Review 2020” is a sort of mini Home feed with four classified carousels. The “My 2020 Year in Review” playlist takes center stage, while Google tracks how many hours you’ve listened to and how many times you’ve played each track.

  • My best albums
  • My best artists

Informationally it’s about on par with the email some customers received at the end of last year, but it lacks some overall stats including how many songs you’ve listened to, the total number of hours and best month listened. That said, it offers a much more interactive experience and is great for sharing via screenshots.

Like the first recap, this 2020 review is not currently being rolled out widely, but YouTube Music is probably going for this approach rather than continuing with emails.
