Zdeno Chara from the Capitals has ordered new hockey sticks. They sort of ended up in an NJ house.

Defenseman Zdeno Chara has joined a new NHL team this season, signing as a free agent with the Washington Capitals after serving as the longtime captain of the Boston Bruins.

This change of address had nothing to do with New Jersey. Yet a new batch of his hockey sticks ended up in the Garden State.

Ariel Ben-Abraham, the owner of a clothing business in New Jersey, received a FedEx box delivered to his home on January 25 – nothing fancy for his job. When he opened it he was shocked to find the bundle of hockey sticks, all with Chara’s name and number 33 on them.

“It must take the cake as the strangest thing I’ve had by mistake,” Ben-Abraham told ESPN. “The sticks of the future Hall of Fame, for the greatest player in NHL history? It’s crazy. These odds don’t even make sense.

The shipment was, of course, a mistake. ESPN reported that True Hockey, the maker of Chara’s sticks, contacted FedEx and Ben-Abraham after photos of the shipping crash were posted on social media. FedEx told True Hockey the sticks are in a shipping center in Memphis, which clearly was not the case.

On top of that, Chara’s staff model – Project X – is not yet available to the public. So the company worked with Ben-Abraham and the Capitals to get the sticks to Chara.

The Capitals have to travel to New York to take on the Rangers, so this may be the time when the future Hall of Fame defenseman finally gets his new sticks.
