The Zoomlion Ghana vector control unit has started a training program for its mosquito control officers in the Volta region.
The program, which took place on the occasion of World Mosquito Day, aims to enable them to effectively manage the sources of larvae and reduce the mosquito population.
World Mosquito Day is commemorated on August 20th of each year to raise public awareness of the threat of malaria and other diseases transmitted by the world's deadliest animal.
The day was also marked by Sir Ronald Ross, a British doctor who discovered that anopheline female mosquitoes were responsible for the transmission of malaria in 1897.
A team from the Noguchi Memorial Medical Research Institute of the University of Ghana and the National Malaria Control Program (NMCP) explained to the participants how to implement and monitor the management of larval sources, the mapping of water masses to target major mosquito breeding sites.
The Volta Regional Malaria Manager, Mr. Roland Glover, who took part in the training, explained that the new knowledge gained in the fight against larval diseases and the best methods of use and destruction mosquitoes at the larval stage would help reduce the number of mosquitoes and malaria cases recorded in the different health regions. facilities in the area.
He expressed optimism that the effectiveness of the partnership between Zoomlion and the Ministry of Health will have more impact and support the program since the various members of the community will own and contribute to it. their support for collectively reducing the incidence of malaria in the region.
Mr. Isaac Ablormeti, regional coordinator for vector control in the Volta region, said Zoomlion was determined to organize various mosquito control campaigns in the Volta and Oti regions.
