Hawaii recorded a record 13 new deaths on Wednesday, including four in Maui, as an influx of COVID-19 patients strains hospital staff and resources.

Three of the deaths in Maui were men, including one in his fifties, one in his sixties and another in his 70s, all of whom had underlying conditions and were hospitalized. The fourth death was a woman over 80 who had underlying conditions and died at home.

Nine deaths have occurred in Oahu, including a woman in her 60s who suffered from underlying conditions and was hospitalized. The other eight deaths were men, including one in their thirties, two in their forties, one in their fifties, another in their sixties and one in their sixties who suffered from underlying conditions and were hospitalized. Another Oahu man in his 50s had no underlying conditions and was hospitalized, while a man over 80 died in a care facility and had underlying conditions.

There have now been 602 COVID-related deaths in Hawaii since the start of the pandemic, including 464 in Oahu, 72 in Maui, 59 on the island of Hawaii, three in Kauai, one in Molokai, and three residents who died outside of the state.

Statewide, there have been 63,957 confirmed and probable cases statewide, including 45,055 in Oahu, 7,720 in Maui County (7,426 in Maui, 162 in Molokai and 132 in Lanai), 7,698 on the island of Hawaii and 1,327 in Kauai. A total of 2,157 residents were diagnosed out of state.
