SALT LAKE CITY – The number of COVID-19 cases in Utah increased by 173 on Monday, with one additional death and 2,326 vaccinations reported, according to the Utah Department of Health.
There are now about 9,242 active cases of COVID-19 in Utah, according to the health department. The seven-day rolling average number of positive cases per day is now 397, according to the health department. The rate of positive tests per day for this period of time reported with the “people over people” method is now 7.1%. The positive test rate per day averaged over seven days calculated with the “test-by-test” method is now 3.5%.
There are now 121 COVID-19 patients currently hospitalized in Utah, including 47 in intensive care, state data shows. About 64% of all hospital beds in Utah’s intensive care units are now occupied, including about 67% of the intensive care beds at the state’s 16 referral hospitals, according to data from the State. The death reported Monday was a Utah County woman aged 65 to 84 who was hospitalized upon her death, according to the health department.
Monday’s totals give Utah 387,514 total confirmed cases, with 15,625 total hospitalizations and 2,133 total deaths from the disease. According to the Department of Health, approximately 376,139 cases of COVID-19 in Utah are now considered recovered.
Utah House Bill 294, also known as the state’s COVID-19 “endgame” bill, requires all state and local Utah health ordinances related to pandemic end on the day the state’s 14-day case rate is 100,000 people, the seven-day average COVID-19 intensive care unit use is less than 15%, and 1,633,000 doses of first COVID-19 vaccine choices have been assigned to Utah.
From Monday, the state reaches the threshold of the first two measures. The 14-day average case rate is 179.4 and the seven-day intensive care average of COVID-19 is around 9.4%, according to state data.
