2,424 new cases of COVID-19 in Alabama; a disturbing trend is emerging

Alabama added 2,424 more coronavirus cases to its total.

Figures from the Alabama Department of Public Health at 10 a.m. on Nov. 19 show the state has recorded a total of 225,910 coronavirus cases since March. The current increase includes 1,838 confirmed cases; 586 were probable. The state also added 72 deaths, dating back to May.

ADPH said recent cases reflect a troubling trend.

“We have seen a 23.1% increase in the number of COVID-19 cases that were first infectious (based on the earliest date of illness onset, specimen collection or report) in the last two weeks… compared to the previous two weeks. The increases are widespread across the state, with 53 of Alabama’s 67 counties (79%) affected (range: 0.7% increase to 51.9%), ”ADPH said.
