2,785 new cases of COVID since yesterday; Alabama coronavirus death rate 15 times higher than the flu

Alabama has added nearly 2,800 coronavirus cases since yesterday.

Figures from the Alabama Department of Public Health at 10 a.m. on Nov. 24 show a total of 236,865 COVID-19 cases since March, with 2,785 added since yesterday. Of this recent increase, 1,961 are confirmed cases; 824 are suspected cases.

The state added 13 deaths to bring the total to 3,472. ADPH said 1.5% of COVID cases in Alabama resulted in death, about 15 times the death rate from influenza. The risk is even greater for people aged 75 and over.

Hospitalizations have jumped again, from nearly 100 since the previous day to 1,427 yesterday.
