ALBANY – The county has experienced one of its deadliest days during the coronavirus pandemic, with five dead overnight, county officials said Thursday.

There are now 90 hospitalized residents, with 137 new cases, County Director Dan McCoy said. Of these new cases, 118 had no clear source of infection. Fifteen county residents died last week from the disease.

Hospitalizations cover a wide age group. Sixteen of them are under 50 years old.

County Health Commissioner Elizabeth Whalen has urged residents to reconsider their family reunion plans over the holiday season.

“Every day we lose people,” she says.
