66 Rockdale County Students Named AP – On Common Ground Fellows

CONYERS, Georgia Rockdale County Public Schools (RCPS) are honoring the 66 students recently named 2021 Advanced Placement (AP) Fellows – including two recipients of the AP Capstone Diploma – for their outstanding performance in the 2020-2021 exams.

RCPS Superintendent Terry Oatts congratulated the students and teachers for their academic excellence.

“I warmly congratulate the academics recognized by the College Board and their teachers for their excellent performance in the Advanced Placement exams and in the advanced academics who are the precursors of these exams. Not only did they excel in rigorous college prep courses, but they stayed focused despite the challenges of a global pandemic. We celebrate their tenacity and their pursuit of excellence, ”said Oatts.

Each year, thousands of high school students around the world take the AP exams. The College Board recognizes the hard work of top students by awarding several distinctions: AP Scholar, AP Scholar with Honor, AP Scholar with Distinction, and AP Capstone Diploma.

Thirty-five RCPS students have been recognized as AP scholars. This distinction is awarded to students who achieve a score of 3 or more on three or more AP exams. Two were students of Heritage High School and 33 were students of Rockdale Magnet School for Science and Technology (RMSST) / Rockdale County High School (RCHS).

Fifteen RCPS students have been recognized as AP Honorary Fellows, which are awarded to students who achieve an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken and a score of 3 or more on four or more of those exams. . All were RMSST / RCHS students.

Sixteen RCPS students have been recognized as AP Fellows with Distinction, awarded to students who achieve an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP exams and a grade of 3 or more on five or more AP exams. All were RMSST / RCHS students.

Two RCPS students obtained the prestigious AP Capstone diploma. Both were RMSST / RCHS students. The AP Capstone is a degree program based on two one-year AP courses: AP Seminar and AP Research. Instead of teaching subject-specific knowledge, AP Seminar and AP Research use an interdisciplinary approach to develop the critical thinking, research, collaboration, time management, and presentation skills that students need for a job. college level. Students who score 3 or higher on the AP Seminar and AP Research and four additional AP exams of their choice are awarded the AP Capstone Diploma.
