"Excellent news today: my administration just got Gilead's historic donation of HIV prevention drugs to help expand access to PrEP for uninsured and at-risk people," he tweeted, referring to Gilead Sciences, which makes the drug.
"This will help us reach our goal of ending the HIV epidemic in America!" he added, while citing a thread on the gift of Secretary of Health and Social Services, Alex Azar.

Azar tweeted Thursday that Gilead would give the drug to some 200,000 people every year for eleven years as a result of discussions between the company and the administration.
I am pleased to announce that, as a result of discussions between the Trump Administration and Gilead Sciences, Inc., Gilead has agreed to make a historic donation of #HIV prevention drugs for 200,000 people each year for 11 years.

Gilead also announced the donation to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in a press release released Thursday. He said that he would give CDCs up to 2.4 million bottles of Truvada medication each year for at-risk, uninsured Americans.
"This drug donation is one of the largest ever in the United States and is one of Gilead's broader ongoing initiatives to ensure that everyone who can benefit from PrEP has access to it." said the company in a statement.
President Trump has previously stated that one of his goals was to end AIDS in the United States within 10 years.
"My budget will require Democrats and Republicans to make the commitment necessary to eradicate the HIV epidemic in the United States by 10 years," he said in his speech. the state of the Union in February. "Together, we will defeat AIDS in America."
