OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma City County Health Department has confirmed two positive samples of mosquitoes carrying West Nile virus this week in Oklahoma County.

"Residents must eliminate all sources of stagnant water and always wear DEET, an insect repellent," said Tre Williams, coordinator of the OCCHD Mosquito program.

How to get rid of mosquito habitats

  • Empty buckets, flowerpots, old tires from water retention.
  • Recharge bird baths and outdoor pet bowls every day.
  • For stagnant water that can not be drained, use microbial larvicides called dunks, which kill mosquito larvae before they appear as adults. They are available at hardware stores or hardware stores.

Use a 3D and a "P" security against mosquitoes

  1. DRAIN stagnant water on your property so mosquitoes do not breed.
  2. Use an anti-DEET product on your clothes.
  3. DRESS with long sleeves and pants.
  4. PROTECT – limits the outside exposure and checks the window screens.

Symptoms of West Nile Virus

  • aches
  • Sometimes a rash
