Memorial Hermann Introduces New Visiting Restrictions Amid Rising COVID-19 Cases

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) – Memorial Hermann Health System announced Wednesday that it is changing its visitation policy.

On December 3, Memorial Hermann will switch to a virtual visitation policy for patient families and friends, and will not allow in-person visits until further notice.

The new policy will apply to all facilities at Memorial Hermann.

“As cases in the Greater Houston area continue to increase, we believe this difficult decision is necessary to protect the health of all as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to evolve,” the statement said.

Memorial Hermann said his only exemptions from the no-visit policy will include:

• An adult visitor (18 years and over) for women in labor.

• An adult visitor (parent or guardian) for pediatric hospital patients.

• Family members for hospice or supportive medicine patients.

• A visitor for patients receiving emergency care.

• An adult visitor for patients at the time of discharge after surgery or intervention.

• Patients with a disability or other medical condition who require assistance communicating with staff will be assessed on a case-by-case basis for potential visitor exceptions.

• Two adult visitors for pediatric emergency center patients and pediatric patients undergoing surgery in the operating room. Once the patient is admitted to inpatient status, only one adult visitor is allowed.

Exempt visitors will be required to undergo a medical examination before entering the facility and wear a mask that will be provided by the hospital at all times.
