Now that Gov. Gavin Newsom announced on Wednesday that people 65 and older are eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, the question is: when and where can they get the vaccine?
Here’s a county breakdown of what Bay Area officials want you to know:
Santa Clara County
Eligible people can contact the following healthcare providers to make an appointment:
Eligible individuals whose primary care provider is not with Kaiser, PAMF, Stanford, or SCVMC may be vaccinated by:
The county this week warned of unofficial texts urging residents to schedule vaccination appointments in the county. They reassure that the texts falsely claim an “extra” supply of vaccine and provide a link to register at one of the county’s vaccination sites.
Contra Costa County
The county’s distribution stages page has details of who can now be vaccinated.
San Francisco
The following groups of people are eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine in the city and county of San Francisco. Managers ask people to contact their health care provider for appointment information.

- People over 65

Solano County officials are asking people eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine to coordinate with their health care providers for an appointment:

San Mateo County
San Mateo County officials have made it clear that while the state now lets adults 65 and older get vaccinated, they have not moved into this phase. This means that they continue to prioritize those in phase 1A.

They ask eligible residents to contact their health care provider for the most accurate and up-to-date information on how to make appointments.

Napa County
Napa County does things a little differently. They are asking residents to sign a “COVID Vaccine Interest Form” which they can access here.
The form will determine resident eligibility and once approved, more appointment information will be provided.

Marin County
Marin County healthcare workers will be vaccinated at their workplace or at a public health vaccination event. Detailed information below:
- Healthcare workers who work for hospitals in Marin County are vaccinated by their employers.
- Health workers and residents of skilled nursing facilities (SNF) are vaccinated on-site by facility staff, Marin Public Health, or CVS staff as part of a federal pharmacy program.
- Health care workers and residents of other long-term care facilities living in community, like Assisted Living, will be vaccinated on-site by CVS staff through a federal pharmacy program, OR at a special vaccination site.

As for the general public, the county says it “will have a wider range of vaccine options, such as their medical provider, local health clinics, commercial pharmacies, supplemental vaccination events based on employers and public health mass vaccination events “.
